New Research Guide for the national health care debate
November 13, 2009
Check out the Muntz Library’s new Research Guide on Health Care Reform & Management. With links to statistics, surveys, policies, books, databases, news, etc., it is a great place to start as a point of reference for a research assignment, or to satisfy your personal curiosity about the national debate.
The library offers 51 Research Guides on all subjects—all created by librarians. If you have an assignment for class but are unsure where to start, use one of these guides. Each guide also has a chat widget on the right side of the screen, in which you can ask for help from a librarian. Don’t be shy about asking chatting with us; we like to help and answer questions.
To view all guides, click “Research Guides” from the library’s homepage (http://library.uttyler.edu). Browse by subject with the links on the left of the page, or click “Browse All 51 Guides (A-Z).” Here’s a direct link to the full list of Research Guides.
Also of note, especially for end-of-semester projects and papers, our Citation Guide contains helpful links and information on how to cite sources in APA, MLA, Chicago, and other styles. If you ever have a question about how to cite something, just ask a librarian (email: library@uttyler.edu; phone: 903-566-7343; chat with a librarian from the UT System; or use the Research Guides to access the librarians’ Meebo chat widgets).

Effective this Summer I semester, the Library will be migrating the remote, OFF CAMPUS login to our databases to the Patriot Account Login. This is the same account that is utilized for the new Blackboard version 8, POPS, Patriot Air, Patriot Email (students), Patriot Webspace, the computers in the Campus Computing Center in BUS101, the Library, the Communications Lab, the Technology Lab, the Nursing Lab, and the Engineering Labs.
In addition to providing a uniform means of authentication across these numerous services, this change will allow the Library to more promptly provide access for our faculty, staff and students to our databases at the start of each semester.
We apologize in advance for any inconveniences this change may cause.
Every student, faculty member and staff member has been provided a Patriot Account. Your Patriot Account can be activated from either the Blackboard link (http://ccs.uttyler.edu/blackboard/) or the student email link (http://ccs.uttyler.edu/email/) found at the bottom of the UT Tyler homepage.
Additional assistance is available from the Campus Computing Center located in BUS101 or via email at itsupport@patriots.uttyler.edu.
Muntz Library Joins UT System Ask A Librarian Service
October 23, 2008
If you have looked at the library’s website recently, you will find a new link under the Ask-a-Librarian box. We are featuring a link to the UT System Ask-A-Librarian Service. By clicking on that link, or going directly to the service’s link (http://www.lib.utsystem.edu/students/ask.html), you can get reference assistance online from a library staff throughout the UT System. For UT Tyler, this is another way for the library to provide research and reference assistance to students and the academic community by tapping into the knowledge and efforts of other UT System librarians.
Ask a UT System Librarian is a chat-based service that enables users to ask reference questions that will be answered by librarians located throughout the University of Texas System. The service runs during the following hours:
Monday – Thursday: 12pm – midnight
Friday: 12pm – 4pm
Sunday: 6 – midnight
The service is designed to answer reference questions. Do note that because the service is staffed by members of various UT System campuses that the librarian assistingyou may not be familiar with the specifics of your local University of Texas library. As a result, librarians may suggest and provide information for contacting your local library for library-specific, policy-oriented, or involved questions.
We are currently participating in the service on a trial basis. Please feel free to try it out and give the library some feedback. You can provide suggestions and responses via e-mail (library AT uttyler DOT edu; just remove the words and put in the correct symbols) or leave a comment here on the blog.
Library Unveils New Website
June 9, 2008
Starting today, the Library has launched a redesigned website. Please visit http://library.uttyler.edu to see the new design. Many of the services faculty and student are already familiar with are still here but be sure to visit the Research Guides at http://libguides.uttyler.edu/. We are using a product called LibGuides to implement our research guides. LibGuides allows for more interaction online as well as for a variety of new and exciting features to better help our students and academic community.
Faculty members can contact their Librarian Liasons (http://library.uttyler.edu/liaison_directory.html) if they have any questions or comments. They can also leave comments here on the blog for feedback.
We hope that you will visit the new website, and that it will become a destination that meets your research needs.
We would like to thank all the UT Tyler students who volunteered some of their time to help us build a better website. We got a lot of valuable feedback and suggestions, many of which we will incorporate in the final design. Our new website will be unveiled in May.

Help The Library Test a New Website
March 3, 2008
We are currently recruiting U.T. Tyler students to help test a new design for the library’s website. The process involves a session in the library to view the new design and complete some common tasks. We want to know how user friendly (or not) is our new design. The testing would take about 20 to 30 minutes. We are looking at the week of March 24 for actual testing.
Please contact Angel Rivera, Reference and Outreach Librarian, at 903-566-7165 or via e-mail at arivera@uttyler.edu.
Participants’ names will be entered in a prize drawing.

Library Web Committee Will Host Second Student Response Meeting
November 19, 2007
As previously announced, the UT Tyler Robert R. Muntz Library is working on a new design for the library website. The purpose of the website’s redesign is to make the site more accessible, interactive, and user-friendly. Last Thursday, November 15th, 2007, the Library Web Committee invited a group of students to the library so they could offer input on a new library website design. We had a very productive session, and the students were enthusiastic. They gave us many ideas to work on for improving the website. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our student participants from last week.
We can still use more feedback. To that end, the Library Web Committee is taking the show on the road, so to speak. We will host a second focus group meeting. The details are as follows:
What: Library Website Redesign: Student Response Meeting 2
When: Thursday November 29, 2007
Time: 5:00p
Place: Ornellas Hall Media Room.
The process should last 45 minutes to an hour. We will provide a brief set of questions for students to answer, which will be followed by some discussion. Food and drink will be provided for participants.
If you have any questions, or to participate, you can contact me, Angel Rivera, Outreach Librarian, at ext. 7165 or via e-mail at arivera AT uttyler DOT edu (replace symbols accordingly).

This would involve a brief written survey, and then some question-and –answer time with our librarians where volunteers can provide us with valuable feedback.
If you are a UT Tyler student, undergraduate or graduate, here are the details:
What: Library Website Redesign: Student Response Meeting
When: Thursday November 15, 2007
